Are worldly laws holding you back?

There are many laws of the land that we grow accustomed to…perhaps most familiarly the laws of nature & physics, gravity and that sort of thing. Having developed a practical understanding of how they work, it’s easy to believe that these laws are it; that we could never overrule their power. How can you defy gravity? How can you prevent a magnet from attracting iron? How can you heal a person dying of terminal illness? You can’t, right?

If we accept that the laws of the land are the be all/end all and cannot be overruled, then we limit God. Fortunately, God has structured his creation with an authoritative hierarchy. Higher authority can overrule lower laws much like a higher court can overrule a lower court’s ruling.

I experienced my first example of this a number of years ago in my financial life when I faithfully began to follow this proverb:

“Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.”
Proverbs 11:24 (NLT)

…Makes no earthly sense, but it’s true and a bit mysterious. I can only explain by saying…

Faith can overrule the world’s financial laws.

The Bible is rife with stories of miracles, our term for what happens when a higher authority overrules lower laws. As the Israelites stood, staring at the Red Sea, a vast hoard of Egyptians barreling down on them, the Red Sea suddenly split open, defying the laws of physics. What overruled the physical laws?

Or consider when Jesus fed the 5000…how can you get so much food, basketfuls left over, from a few fish and loaves? What overruled this supply and demand crisis?

“Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd.”
Mark 6:34 (NLT)

Beyond this, when Jesus died on the cross, what overruled his physical death?

“This is real Love—not that we Loved God, but that he Loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”
1 John 4:10 (NLT)

In each case, Love overruled the physical laws… the pinnacle being when Jesus rose from the grave, the seemingly immovable law that many fear so much.

Love Overrules! 

In 1 Corinthians, Paul makes it clear that Love is supreme, able to overrule all lower laws. In fact, John goes so far as to say…

“God is Love, and all who live in Love live in God, and God lives in them.”
1 John 4:16 (NLT)

Love permeates God’s holiness, righteousness and perfect justice. He so embodies Love, that all of his power aligns with it and this can make all of the difference in the world if we align our life! When we live in Love, we live in God and he in us. So, when we serve others as an act of God’s Love, the worldly and spiritual obstacles in front of us can be overruled.

Love allows us to tap into God’s authority, and what trumps that?

When Jesus was asked, “What is the most important commandment” he answered:

“You must Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.’”
Jesus Christ| Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT)

The entire law of God is dependent on Love. He’s commanding us to tap into his power as we pursue our reason for being here, our Life Mission’s. Love needs to be the center of focus of each of our Life Mission’s, lest we will fail.
